Breakdown on the 15, the 40 or Laurentien Blvd.: what to do

Updated October 14, 2026 · MRY Pro Services, Cartierville

Short answer : Per CAA-Québec: take the next exit if you can, otherwise pull as far right as possible on the shoulder, turn on your hazard lights and stay buckled in the vehicle. If you are stuck on a bridge, in a tunnel or on a very busy road, call 911.

On the highway (15, 40, 13)

If the car still moves, aim for the next exit: it is safer than the shoulder.

Otherwise: right shoulder, hazard lights, and stay in the vehicle with your seatbelt on. If you must get out, use the passenger side.

On a bridge (Lachapelle, Médéric-Martin, Louis-Bisson)

There is often no usable shoulder. Stay in the vehicle and call 911 to secure the area, as CAA-Québec recommends.

On Laurentien Blvd. or in town

Pull into a side street or a parking lot if you can, hazards on.
