Short answer : The SAAQ mechanical inspection is not required for every car. It applies in certain cases, such as a used vehicle from outside Québec or a vehicle ordered in by a peace officer. It is done by an SAAQ-authorized agent. The official list is on the SAAQ website.
When it is required
The SAAQ publishes the list of cases where the inspection is mandatory and the frequency for some categories (taxis, buses, etc.). For your vehicle, rely on the SAAQ page or the notice you received.
Who can do it
Only an SAAQ-authorized agent. A garage that is not an agent can inspect your car but cannot issue the SAAQ compliance sticker.
Pre-purchase or pre-winter inspection
That is different. An inspection at MRY Pro Services checks brakes, tires, suspension, fluids and lights and gives you our findings in plain words, with prices. Useful before buying a used car or before winter.
If you received an SAAQ notice, call us: we will tell you honestly whether your request fits what we do.
